The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee has taken action to cancel all in-person apprentice training classes for the remainder of 2020. A text message is going out to all apprentices as well as reporting it in our web-based classes.
The 40-hours of annual training are still required by every apprentice. We have set up our Instructors with access to conduct web-based classes. These web-based classes will continue through the remainder of the year, following the existing schedule for each area. The schedules can be found on the 669 website under the “Training” tab. To earn credit towards their 40-hour annual training requirement, Apprentices are required to attend these web-based classes as well as complete 1 OILS class per month.
O.I.L.S. is Online Interactive Learning for Sprinkler Fitters. OILS was originally established to provide training for apprentices who lived more than 100 miles from a training site. There are 10 modules in the OILS class each module is worth 4 hours of credit. With the cancellation of our in-person classes we have enrolled all apprentices into the OILS classes. This means all apprentices will need to compete some or all of the OILS classes to obtain their 40-hours of annual training. OILS is accessed through the WCC testing site. This is the same place where apprentices take their quizzes and exams for their books. If there are any questions about OILS please contact your Instructor, WCC or the JATC office.
